Fashion Forward

Nicole Miller

Anyone that knows me well will be able to tell you, EbonyMom is not exactly forward when it comes to fashion for herself. Sure I’m always hunt on great deals for my boys and I can spot a great home sale a mile away but when it comes to shopping for clothes for myself I’ve got “shopping block” in a major way.

I’ve looked in store after store for years now only to be miserably disappointed. However recently things have changed. When we took a trip to the mall to meet a wonderful blogger (my first time EVER meeting a blogger offline- I’ll have to post about it soon) I walked through several stores completely floored by how many things I saw and loved!

Love the shape of this Maggy London dress and the mod flowers:

The color and pattern of this Nicole Miller is so fabulous:

I’m no Fashionista or Hot Mama but I have been so incredibly inspired by the new trends and colors in fashion this season that I find myself staring and longing in just about every store I pass through.

Have you ever known someone who walks around in a particular style/period of clothing never taking another step forward in the fashion timeline? Well now I finally get it- I’m so in like with the current styles and colors I would be perfectly content to stay right here and now for good.

I was able to update my wardrobe with a few new pieces(none pictured here I’m afraid) and I feel so calm and confident in the bohemian chic style I can see staying here comfortably for some time. So please forgive me if you ever meet an EbonyGrandMommy 30 years or so from now and I’m an older graceful photographer still rocking her ‘07 bohemian style.

Fabulous color pallette on this Diane Von Furstenburg:

Oooh, that first piece, as well as the second, knock me off my feet.

I thought the first pic was of you (look at the profile pic you display, and the shape of the nose and skin tone), Ms. EbonyMommy.

I love, love, love the first one. What store was that in? I love DVF dresses….just can’t afford them. I like your style!

Pretty, pretty - I love the Nicole Miller! I think I get stuck in a rut because of financial constraints. I buy classics and buy a few fresh pieces when the $ allows. Can’t wait to see what EbonyGrandMommy you looks like - we will still be blogging then, right? :)

You may not be “fashion forward” but you sure have a great eye. I’m so loving these dresses. And Lawd knows I have nowhere to wear them.

Oh my! I love the first one the others aren’t bad either. Love the colors and prints. Now I am more motivated than ever to get off this excess weight. Once upon a time i could have worn that first dress and looked HOT. Oh gosh now I’m sad. Great taste woman.:)

[...] The reality of not being able to purchase any new clothing because of my Wardrobe Refashion pledge really hit me after checking out a Fashion Forward post at EbonyMommy - the clothes were simple smashing! I realized that I have not been following fashion trends like I used to in my single days and felt a need to redefine my sense of self and style after seeing myself in a few pictures. Before anyone gets their bloomers in a bunch, I realize that my heart is what needs to be right in God’s eyes but God also told me to be concerned with the things of the world so that I may please my husband and he likes me to be pleasing to his eyes. [...]

i love the first dress. where i can i get one? are they for junk in da trunk type of girls like me :)
