Rockn’ Out

Music and education are excellent partners in the learning style of both of my children. One complaint EDad and I have had since we’ve been parents is the lack of diversity in music related learning products. Rock N’ Learn educational DVDs finally offer a new option for learning- education and music variety.

We started off watching the Money and Making Change DVD. The boys enjoyed the detailed explanation of all of the different types of money (and I must admit I learned a few things as well since I can now recognize the 3 different types of nickels.) Though I really thought some of the concepts might be a bit more advanced than a 5 year old could keep up with the fact that everything was set to music helped him to absorb far more than I anticipated.

The Letter Sounds DVD was surprisingly innovative, incorporating not just music but also learning games and listening exercises. The DVD is really long for a single watch but taking pieces and adding it to an educational curriculum is very helpful with beginning phonics and reading. Listening is just as important as seeing with this educational tool which is very helpful to incorporate additional sensory aspects for children with different learning styles.

We reviewed the Addition and Subtraction Rap and while it was a great concept that the kids did pick up on (we did a viewing party with 3 children ages 5, 5, and 7) the repetition was more obvious in this one. While the other dvds had animated characters present the information the use of a person was a bit lacking for me. The kids did seem to be picking up some of the addition in the first few segments but it may be a bit much for those just beginning mathematics. The rap music was very canned and not as unique as the other DVDs we watched either but we’ll keep incorporating it to see how it does impact beginning math skills.

Rock N’ Learn is an excellent way to incorporate listening and music with learning all sorts of educational skills. I was surprised to actually enjoy much of the music as well- and never knew that a Penny and Dollar Bill could rock so hard. It is so exciting and refreshing to see such an innovative product educating children one rockin’ lyric at a time.

Organize This!

Organization is one of my favorite interests. I read organization magazines, enjoy several of the clean up and organize your home/life/everything shows, and am fascinated by the organization stores which seem to be focused on every facet of life. Dayrunner has stepped up the organization game by developing specific organization and scheduling tools for your family life. Family Matters goes beyond simple calendars and address books and allows you to take grasp of your schedule no matter how much may be on your family’s plate.

The system is color coded so that you can track days, activities, and organization of items for each individual family member. No more overlapping small schedule books trying to figure out who has to do what, where and when instead the Family Planner has a consistently laid out clear schedule by individual family member for every day. We really enjoyed using the Erasable Wall Planner which the boys were able to help me keep a tab on based on their name and color.

I found the Storage Cases to be extremely helpful with the barrage of paperwork that seems to accumulate each and every week. Each boy now comes home and places their items from school folders in their assigned case. I can easily see what is due immediately as well as having an easy space from which to file or declutter items.

The Family Matters system is a very good way for busy families to stay on track. We did not utilize the door reminders as much as all of the other items but I could see them being incorporated more often as the boys are old enough to read and write their own reminders of projects. I also would have really liked to try the Monthly Wall Info System but it will most likely be a future investment.

I will definitely continue to use this system for my family. I look forward to the clear view of our schedule and time so that we utilize each moment to the fullest for our family. We also think Family Matters is an excellent tool to teach our boys just how important a skill time management truly is.

Gloves in a Bottle is a new product formulated to help those with extra dry skin. The key component to keeping your skin moisturized and healthy is protecting it inside and out. Gloves in a Bottle applies smooth as silk to give an extra barrier of protection to help keep your skin from drying out from exposure to chemicals or weather.

EDad also tried this product and he gave it a good review. He did find that it was neccessary to reapply after a few hours or so but I found that it sealed my hands in moisture all day. If you’d like to try this product for yourself or find out more tips for keeping your skin moisturized inside and out check out their website: Gloves in a Bottle
